Mobile Wrench is different than many mobile service providers. Our expertise goes beyond PM’s & inspection. Our staff of certified diesel mechanics have the full skills, capabilities and equipment to complete almost any repair needed on a diesel truck or trailer. The following are just a few examples of repairs we have completed this year alone.
Front engine cover replacement
A leak discovered on a 2009 Volvo VNL during an annual inspection.
During the annual DOT inspection, it was discovered the front engine cover was leaking. Upon opening the engine and draining the engine of oil & coolant, an internal inspection and diagnosis discovered many components needed to be replaced. These included the front main seal, harmonic balancer, idler pulley, tensioners, coolant reservoir, oil cooler, the radiator lines, alternator, clutch brake, and oil pressure sensor – as well as various O-rings, gaskets, nuts and bolts. This project was made much more difficult because someone tried to stop the leak with a concrete caulk that made dismantling incredibly hard. After completing the repairs, the truck was thoroughly tested.
Full brake replacement
Checking noisy brakes on a 2019 Dodge 5500 resulted in a full brake replacement.
A customer requested that we check their brakes due to a grinding noise. Our on-site mobile diesel mechanic performed an on-site inspection and found that one of the calipers was missing a piston and the 3 rotors had metal on metal contact. We informed the customer of the issue and after gaining approval with an estimate, we repaired the brake pads and rotors on all four positions and replaced the bad caliper. All work was completed on-site by a certified truck repair diesel mechanic at the customer’s location in 1 day.
Coolant leak results in major coolant line replacement
Freightliner M2 coolant leak diagnosis led to a replacement of major coolant lines going to the engine block.
A customer had a coolant leak, and requested we send a diesel technician to diagnose the problem. He had been advised that a full radiator replacement was going to be required. Mobile Wrench’s diesel mechanic conducted a pressure test and found the metal line going into the engine block had a bad connection resulting in an active leak. Due to the location, orientation, and the fact that they were metal, several components needed to be removed to gain access for repair including: the front fender, both fuse boxes, and block heater core. After the components were removed, we were able to install the lines needed and reassemble the removed components. After a new pressure test, the coolant leak was gone, and the happy customer was able to put the truck back on the road and saved the cost of an unnecessary radiator replacement.
Hyster forklift major repair and mass replacement
Simple avoidable problems and a missing bolt led to a front mass replacement.
While most of Mobile Wrench’s work is on semi-truck and trailer repairs, we also repair a a lot of different equipment. A customer had a couple of recurring issues with its yard Hyster forklift. We conducted an on-site inspection to diagnose the problem and found a few minor issues including a missing bolt in the forklift’s mass. After installing a replacement bolt, our certified diesel mechanic checked the mass. He determined the excess play resulting from the missing bolt caused the mass to bend and thus was no longer usable. The mechanic was able to remove the bent mass from the forklift and then install a newer mass in good shape. After the repair was completed in the customer’s yard, it was load tested and put back into service.
Turbo and air cooler repair
International 4300 – Oil leak led to replacement of a faulty turbo and air cooler.
A customer asked us to come out and diagnose an oil leak they noticed on their truck. Our on-site mobile diesel mechanic found a leak coming from the CAC hose area. The air filter housing was removed to allow for the turbo to be inspected. The Turbocharger was diagnosed as the problem. The certified diesel technician replaced the turbo and components, charged the air cooler, and performed a PM to ensure clean oil was flowing through the engine. The customer was able to take the truck and put it back into service.
PM service inspection unvocers several serious issues on a 2010 international durastar
Our on-site diesel technicians perform a courtesy inspection with each PM service. This inspection found several problems: both axles needed new brake shoes and drums, both rear leaf springs were damaged and needing replacement, the gear box was leaking, and the radiator was leaking (and its shroud was also broken). The customer requested that we perform the necessary repairs in order to keep their driver safe and the truck well maintained. Our tech came to the customer’s location and performed all the approved repairs on their site and left the customer happy and in possession of a newly repaired truck that they were eager to put back into rotation.
Front end collisioin damage / repair
2021 Ram promaster 2500, collided with a pole resulting in substantial cooling system and engine component damage.
Inspection of the unit post-accident found several issues which required disassembly of the entire front end for diagnosis and repair. We provided an estimate for the repairs and minor body damage. Customer selected us because we were able to complete the repairs 4 weeks sooner than a body shop. After taking everything apart, we performed the following repairs: new grille & brackets, radiator replacement (including new radiator cross member), A/C condenser, replacing transmission & oil cooler lines, transmission oil pan replacement, power steering cooler, coolant reservoir, new front bumper cross member. After reassembling the entire front end, the unit was tested and released for customer pickup.
